Animal Stories - Sugar Glider

Animal-World Information about: Sugar Glider

Sugar Gliders get their name from their "sweet tooth" and because they have a fold of furred skin stretching from their forefeet to their hind feet which they spread out like a kite to help them glide through the trees searching for insects and nectar!

I am thirteen years old and I am the proud owner of a fanominal sugar glider! I have done extensive research on these animals and have even read stories about them!
I disagree about them eating pinkies (baby mice). One of the stories that i have read said how they had fed their sugar gliders pinkies, and everytime the female had a baby she would always eat the baby thinking it was a pinkie. Other tan that, I agree with them eating mealworms, crickets, etc!

i think sugar gliders are the coolest thing ive ever seen. i know a lot about them. i have a sugar glider name pippin and hes the coolest and weirdest thing ive seen, until i got used to it, and he seems frendly as ever. my other sugar glider, guiniver, was mean and i dont know why. i still liked her even though she was mean. i had 4 sugar gliders before. we had to get rid of 3 and kept the oldest. there names where lancalot, guiniver, pippin, and vanish. pippin is about 3 to 4 mounths old and they live up to be 15 years old in a house (owned) and 9 mounths in wild. guiniver, lancalot, and pippin are brother and sisters. i think i will be a vet when i grow up because i want to help animals so much!

my suger glider pressus is 8 weeks old. she crabs when i get her out. the male one trys to bite some times when i get him out. they play a lot. they are noisey and they love to stay in your shirt pocket. yesterday i had them in the bonding pouch, and as soon as i walked in my room they smelled my rat. they looked out of the pouch and started crabbing at her, she was in a cage. they are both 8 weeks old they can tell when the weather is changing, they are jumpy when the weather is changing. i love them both. your site helped me alot, thanks

my 2 suger gliders are nice but loud at night. one of mine shakes some. i've had them for 3 weeks, i got a male and a female. i hold them 3 hours a day. i feed them grated apples and food pellets so far, i just now started feeding them grapes. i heard they can live for 20 years with proper care and to never pull them by the tail because it can come right off. they bite, and when they do it sure hurts. when they are scared they pop and pee. mine have a hammock to sleep in, they love it. you all taught me a lot about suger gliders.

when you bring your pet suger glider home, keep it in the cage for 1 day so it can calm down. when handling the suger glider be patient with your new pet. dont be suprised if it crabs at you, it will be scared, to it you are like a giant. you need to let it out to play oce a day but you need to glider proof your room. make sure all the plugs are unplugged so if they chew on them it won't hurt them. if you let them play in the bathroom, make sure the lid is down or they might fall in the toilet and drown because they can't get out. if you go on vacation, make sure other people take care of it. they can eat fruits, insects, and pink mice. they can get 8" long and can live for 20 years with proper care. You can feed them nuts, but they are high in fat. They are not shy about mating in front of you when breeding. you need a license to breed from the Department of Agriculture. it may cost $30 to buy but you will also need to have a vet check on them so it may cost around $100 to $200 to breed them and to sell them. if you lose one of the gliders, the other one may cry every night, get depressed, and die if you don't get another glider. it will be about 4 to 8 weeks when you can hold the babies.

i have 2 pet suger gliders, they are noisy at night. they are a pocket pet but if you try to reach you hand in the pocket they may crab and bite. you should clean the cage once a week. they can find out how to open the cage, they are smarter then a squirrel. they can glide up to 200 feet. never pick them up by the tail because it may come off. the body temperature is around 65f - 75f. they play a lot. suger gliders will not use a litter box and they can not be housed trained. they love to roll around in a rat ball. you need to handle them for 3 hours a day. when taking the glider outside, put a leash on them. poisonous house plants are amarylis, american yew, azalea, balsam, pear, banberry, bird of paradise, and many more plants. if you go on vication make sure you know some one to take care of them, they may bite strangers. they love to eat insects and pink mice, and they may think of a hamster as a treat. do not feed them cat food as it is high in fat. their bodys can not take fat, it may kill them. there are a lot of different diets. like your website, it gave me good information
