Unbelievably my husband just won a Overo from a raffle benefit! We got the news tonight while going out to eat which was a huge surprise since I knew nothing about the raffle. I can't wait to get her home & use to her new surroundings so I can teach my son to ride. I used to barrel race w/ my buckskin gelding when I was younger & have always wanted another horse.

I am also using this for a this for a class report. My teacher is making sure we find facts with numbers over 100. This helped me a lot. Thanks. I chose the american mustang so this was a good site.

I just bought what I believe to be a Norwegian Fjord. I love this gelding but would like to know his breeding. Is there anywhere I could check his DNA to find out his blood lines?

We have a 3 year old Haflinger/Appaloosa gelding. When we got him he was a stud colt. My daughter and I have taught him everything. He picks up his feet, leads, accepts saddle and bridle, trailers, bathes, and is a real joy to teach and be around. We are waiting for him to mature a little before we ride him. Looking forward to trail riding this guy nothing bothers him.

I bought a 4 year old Islandic in April 2013, I have done loads of groundwork and have now backed him, my question is his feet are so small, my farrier said he is rather flat footed, I have now had front shoes on him, can anyone tell me if this is normal for the breed? I love him to bits, but I don't know anything about the breed. Thank You Carole

I suggest you talk to Icelandic Horse experts. A good place to start would be the organization, United States Icelandic Horse Congress (USIHC), that is an official registry for this breed. They have many members and I bet they could answer this and other detailed questions about your horse. Good luck!
  • Asta - 2016-11-03
Yes it is normal. I am from Iceland and i own two horses. Many Icelandic horses have short feet but that does not have to be a bad thing:) Here we are kind of surprised if the horse had long legs haha.

My life dream was to own a lippizzaner horse for a trail riding horse. I live in Hillsboro, Ohio 45133. Would it be possible to purchase one and how much do they cost? I was interested in a filly. That way I could bond with it as it grows up. I know that you can not ride them until their at least 4 years old. That doesn't matter to me. Just the thought of being able to have one would mean everything in the world to me. Would it be cheaper in price if I ordered a slight older one. What do you think? Where would the closest place be to me that I would be able to purchase one? I am looking very forward to hearing from you.

Thank you so much,

Lipizzans make great trail horses! They are calm and tend to stop and look when something concerns them rather than spook and run away. They have good feet and are comfortable to ride. The mares are strong minded but will try very hard for you if you are loving and fair to them. Don't try to dominate a Lipizzan mare! She won't put up with harsh treatment! I know I have been a long lover of Lipizzans and have bred them. Right now horses are pretty easy to find - even Lipizzans. Look on Dreamhorse.com for those that are for sale. Foals and older horses are cheaper. And at times there are some that are available for free from those who just want a really good home for their horse.

What kind of bit are Lipizzans ridden with?

Lipizzans are just like any other horse when it comes to bits. Every horse is different and prefers, or is trained with a different bit. Depending on the age of the horse, that can also play a role in which bit to use. If it's an older horse that has already been trained ask the person you purchased it from. If you purchased a youngster you can train him/her with a bit suitable to your needs.

I saw the Spanish Riding School perform last night in Birmingham and all I can say it took my breath away! I have bought the show programme and it is full of many facts and figures about the stallions. They are trained in plain English bridles and saddles with a snaffle bit and possibly a dropped nose bands. They are ridden during performances in double bridles made of pure gold fittings. They truly are a once in a life-time spectacle!
