I just received a moluccan cockatoo whos name is lucifer from an animal rescue. his previous owner had him for 13 yrs and she passed away. he seems very sad and doesnt want me touching him. he will let me feed him from my hand, but that is about it.
i think he is lonely and would love to get him a friend. i spend alot of time with him but i think he needs more. if u know of anyone who cant care for theirs, please email me at: mindymm24@bellsouth.net thank u,

MY MISS MURRFY WAS AN ABUSED BIRD WHEN I GOT HER.I HAD HER UNTIL SHE BECAME A BREEDER BIRD. EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY WAS SPENT WITH HER. SHE LEARNED 45 WORDS AND HAD HER OWN SEAT IN THE CAR. SHE WAS PLAYFUL WITH THE CATS AND DOG. SHE WAS 14 WHEN I GOT HER.
FOR 2 MONTHS SHE HAD NIGHTMARES EVERY NIGHT AND NEVER STOPED PLUCKING HER CHEST, LEGS, AND BACK. YOU CANT ALWAYS GET THEM TO STOP BUT SHE WAS MY BEST FRIEND AND I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN IN A HOT MINUTE.

I purchased Java, a female, in 1980 when she was about 1 yr old as an imported bird, a norm during that period. She is a wonderful friendly bird with a calm disposition. However, at 19 yrs old she started to feather pick and after several years has managed to do a lot of permanent feather/folicle damage. These birds require A LOT of personal attention, not only during the first years of their life, but throughout their life. There was a period several yrs ago I did not give her the attention she needed, and the picking started. Although she now gets plenty of love and attention, the picking is now a habit and reversal has been unsuccessful..although we're still trying. I can go on and on with all the positives of these incrediable loving birds who will go out of their way for your hugs and kisses (they prefer this over food when being rewarded for tricks), but please do not purchase a Mollucan unless you can give it LOTS of love and attention every day of their long 60 yr life span.
