WE have 4 chilchids and one of them will sometimes start to jump at the top of the water and rub vigorously against the tank, rocks, and even the filter with its head just on top above the eyes and will swim up in front of one of the other fish point downwards and flutter until it can get the other fish to bite it and take chunks out of it. This will go on till the fish has had enough and will quit. This leaves the fish with an exposed wound showing the white flesh underneath and in a few days will heal up, but he does this occasionally ..What type of parasite or fungus could this be and what would be the recommended treatment ...It also seems that after we have added salt to the tank hat this sets the fish off ..I don't know if it is because of not enough salt to completely solve the issue .

There is also an overview on the page of fungal, bacterial etc symptoms regarding fish. Test the temperature and PH though. OK? Let us know more of what is happening. I am going to look it up also cuz sure haven't heard of this before.

My oscar fish is nine inches and I have hoplosternum littorale that is a 9 inches and syndontis ocellifer that is 8 inches and a common pleco that is 9 inches and they all eat the feeder fish but the pleco. My hoplo catfish begs me for food. The fish tank is 55 gallon.

Hi,, I have bought a pair of alounocara red peacock, ( Rubin ) and I joined him with other tank mates as,
2 lemmon cichlid
2 blue zebra cichlid
2 venustus
2 parrot
1 fontosa

Everything seems fine but the venustus seems to be upset with him. He can't stop darting on them,, although I have many hiding spaces and all that, what shall I do :(

I included articles on the various fish you have in your tank. The Venustus has a predatory nature and it is recommended you have a 60 gallon tank when they are little and 125 gallon as they mature. They want a lot of space. Could this be the problem. You have a good number of fish. How big is your tank?

If I were you I would move the venustus to another tank. I have africans. I had 2 pair of orange blotch peacocks, 2 pair of deep water haps (pladichromis electra), a jewel cichlid, pleco,and a juvenile ruby crystal peacock. Guess what? All I have is a ruby crystal peacock and the pleco. The ruby crystal killed everything except for the orange blotch male and the jewel cichlid they died from my water quality. African cichlids are very agressive he's probably gonna tear your peacocks up. If i was you I would move them or the vunustus cichlid..
