I found in my porch a small, hurt what I believe is a Cagle's turtle. I been caring for it and actually got very active after about 2 weeks swimming and playing with another softshell that I also fostered. Recently I placed some feeding fish for them to eat but they were scared of them and I decided to take the fish out. For some reason the once active little turtle now wants to spend the day in the floating desk under the UV and warming lights and not wanting to swim that much anymore and won't even care to go for the mealworms I feed them. It will let me handle it and pet it but one O place it back in the floating log it jumps in the water for about 2-3 minutes before going back into the dry log and lights...Is that a normal behavior of these little guys? Thank you

I have a jaguar cichlid with a Flowerhorn and Mayan for 6 months. They begin as little 1.5' fries. It seems the FH outgrew the others considerably, and is now 6.5' whereas the rest are only 4.5'.I feel they need to be separated as they are always hiding away from the FH aggression in their own holes that I provided. Should I move them away and as such, what tankmates should be introduced?

Hello. I recently bought a black moor Goldfish. His name is Wilbur. He was in a one gallon tank for a week and I moved him into a 5 gallon. My dorm only allows a max of 5 gallon tanks. Does anyone know how long I can keep him in that tank before I upgrade? He is 3 inches long right now and I am a freshman in college. Would Wilbur need to be upgraded before I graduate? Please help me and Wilbur. He's my best friend.

I am no expert and am pretty new to the Goldfish game myself, but from everything I have read a Goldfish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water per inch while they are young but ultimately need a 20 gallon tank or larger to thrive and not stunt their growth. There is a YouTube channel called The Gold Standard hosted by a girl with half blonde half black hair who really knows her stuff. I would start there and see what you can find out.

It should be fine. As long as you dont add any other fish or decorations. Generally 1 inch of fish per gal of water. He can grow up to 10' typically they will only grow as big as the tank allows. He will probably grow 5 to 6 inches in a 5 gal. Tank. Just make sure to do proper water changes. Small tanks get dirty quickly.

My kids dad brought a baby raccoon home and I bottle fed it and shes healthy.. probably about 4 or 5 years old. I have 2 kids, one being a year old. I dont have the best living conditions for racoon to be happy and shes becoming too much to handle.. i feel terrible because i probably should've brought her to wildlife rehabilitation but I didnt and now I want to find her a home. Maybe someone on here can help or wants to adopt her. I live in Florida

I have a zebra moray that is currently about 2'. He has been doing great and, a hungry mouth (he will come out and, eat daily. In the past week and, a half he has quit eating and, seemed to lay to one side when he swam around the rocks to change direction he would actually rotate his head to the other side and, his body would fallow as he swam. The past few days he hasn't hardly moved at all. Today he is laying with his head upside down and I noticed he has what looks to be prolapsed membranes (the ones on top of his head not the front nostrils) anyone have any experience with this? We have been doing WCs every week of 20%and, increased the water flow on circulation pumps.

I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM! I'm so surprised that someone else is having the same issue w/ theirs! My Zebra Steiped Moray Eel is about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. I've had him for about 4 months now and my Eel developed his nasal cavity issue about 2 months ago. The employee at my preferred fish store told me he's never seen this before. He is EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE in his work & I COMPLETELY trust his judgement. But, again he's never seen this happen before. He said to do 20% water changes every other day until all my Nitrates, Nitrates & Ammonia levels are zero. (And keep the pH level stable also) I'm getting there slowly but surely. I've still got a little ways to go before my levels are zero. But my EELS inflammation has gotten bigger. It looks like 2 pink balls of chewed gum or pom-poms kinda on his head. Is that what your Eels nostrils look like? Thank you. I hope we can help each other figure this out. Jackie S

Outdated inaccurate information.... The albino cory is of the species Corydoras aeneus ... Also known as the bronze cory... Selectivly bred in captivity for the albino trait as it does not occur in the wild. They do not even have the same body shape as the peppered cory. Not sure why that was even posted considering any other site anywhere online has them labled correctly. Really strange that whoever made this fish profile would post something so easily proven incorrect.

Albino corydoras can be any species with the albino gene. It won't just be the bronze cory that has been bred for its gene, im sure of that.
  • Craig - 2020-10-11
Indeed, there are two types of Albino Cory available in the trade; Aeneus and Paleatus. I’ve seen both in local fish stores, simply labelled ‘Albino Cory’ with no distinction either way. In fact, one store had both types in the same tank and selling them as the same fish. Aeneus are certainly more common, but Paleatus do show up in albino form fairly often.
  • Editor's Note - 2020-10-14
Possibly, but in our research so far we have found they are believed to be derived from Corydoras paleatus. Two of the references cited on the bottom of this page suggest this; Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod in his book 'Aquarium Fishes of the World' shows the albino form of C. paleatus (page 430); and also author Richard Geis,  in his book 'Catfish Keeping & Breeding Them in Captivity,' also suggests in the caption of his albino photo, this color form being C. paleatus (page 54). However if you can share a resource suggesting they are C. aeneus , we would love to review it.
