While looking up 'merulina' species I realized most of them
are "frilly" and have names that start with 'amp', like 'amplicata',
'ampliata', and 'amphiata'. I don't know if there is a trend here and there
is a reason for it, or it is merely coincidence. The coral in the picture
has 'frills' also but is a bit knobbier compared to the other two varieties
mentioned. It is also has the light green color typical of the other species.
Description:
This corals' colors are commonly green, pink, brown and cream.
Lighting - Water flow:
Likes medium to strong water movement, prefers turbulent
flow. Requires strong light.
Difficulty of Care:
Although I couldn't find data on this particular
species, one of the others, M. amplicata is listed as a very difficult
coral to keep. Mainly because it doesn't adjust well to changing conditions.
For this reason it is not recommended for beginners.
Aggressiveness:
Not an aggressive coral.
