Our Favorite Wild Animal

Timon Lookalike, a Meerkat
MeerKat

   Meerkats were made famous by the movie "The Lion King" because one of the main characters, Timon, is a Meerkat. Isn't he cute?

   Meerkats are in the same family as the Mongoose of which there are many different varieties. Meerkats live in family units in burrows (dens) that they dig underground. The Meerkat in the picture above is probably acting as the lookout for the den. The lookout duty is traded off among the adult Meerkats of the den so someone can alert them to danger at all times.

   Although Meerkats are not available as pets, we think they are a delightful addition to our information service!
